Nicola Lopez Installations

Artkyle bryantComment

Imagine walking through the gallery district in your favorite city. You've probably walked about a mile or two looking at art that fits perfectly into a white walled space, framed by the 90 degree angles of squares and rectangles.

Then you open the door to a gallery you've never visited and you see Nicola Lopez's installations climbing the walls and spilling from the ceilings onto the floor...

Back in 2005 I walked into this very scene and my perspective of art was forever changed.

Nicola Lopez uses printmaking and mylar to create elements that can be collaged into grand, complex and chaotic installations. By using the repeated imagery made possible by printmaking she is able to build these massive installations like a puzzle with no edges.

I know these pieces are all pretty old, and I'll post a newer one soon, but to this day these types of pieces really inspire me. I'm hoping that if I can finally get settled somewhere that I can re-examine these types of ideas with printmaking.

What kind of imagery would you like to see me use?
